Skiing in Whistler
Whistler is home to enough trails to satisfy everyone from beginner skiers to the seasoned expert, and offers heart-pumping descents and epic mountain scenery. At the base of both Whistler and Blackcomb mountains is the European-styled pedestrian-only village, which boasts a host of excellent restaurants and bars – so, there is plenty to do once the ski boots have been hung up for the day.
Whistler is not on the way to any of the CMH lodges but is a great option for a longer warm-up or post heli trip.
Powder Skiing Watch
Whistler may not have the light fluffy powder you get in the interior ranges of British Columbia, however it does benefit from huge dumpings of the white stuff, making it highly likely to find deep snow. Being the largest ski resort in North America, you will be sure to find some terrain to suit all abilities.
Pure Powder Loves
The lively après scene – Whistler is the most European-like resort in North America and Canada meaning it is not hard to find a vibey bar for that post ski cold beer.
Being keen beans for Fresh Tracks – you enjoy a cooked buffet breakfast at the Roundhouse Lodge before taking advantage of the fresh powder and the perfectly groomed pistes before the mountain is open to the public.
Things to consider
It can get very busy at the height of the winter season, and it is extremely popular on weekends when the Vancouvians migrate to the slopes.
Due to its coastal location, the powder can be a little heavy and it does occasionally rain on the village and lower slopes.
In order to reach one of the CMH lodges, you will have to either catch a flight from Vancouver to Kelowna, Kamloops or Calgary or you will be looking at a long drive of over 7 hours.
