Backcountry Paradise
If you’re looking for a warm up resort with guaranteed powder then look no further than Kicking Horse. Kicking Horse is known for its deep, champagne powder as well as its truly spectacular mixture of terrain. The resort receives an average of 7.5 metres of snow per season which is very respectable in comparison to its neighbouring resorts. It has plenty of backcountry skiing with over 60% of its terrain recommended for advanced or expert skiers. There might be a short wait for the gondola on a powder day but once you’re up the mountain it’s not hard to find fresh tracks.
Kicking Horse is most convenient for the following CMH areas: Bobbie Burns, Bugaboos, Purcell, Revelstoke & Kootenay.
Small Village with Quick Access to Slopes
Kicking Horse Resort has a very small hamlet at the base of the ski hill, with most accommodations only a short walk away. It has a lovely European feel to it with wooden chalets and only a few larger condominiums. There isn’t too much going on here, with only a handful of restaurants, so it is a place where you are all about the skiing. If you want to explore more dining options, then head into the town of Golden, which is only a 15-minute drive from the resort. Alternatively, you could stay in Golden and travel up to the resort each day. There is also a local shuttle (only CAD$5) from Golden which runs daily throughout the Winter Season.
WHERE TO STAY

This 10-bedroom boutique hotel is situated right in the centre of Kicking Horse and conveniently just a short 5 minute walk from the gondola. The Vagabond Lodge is owned by Ken and Lori who are at hand throughout your stay to make sure you’re well looked after. Days at the Vagabond usually start with Lori’s healthy breakfast and finish with a relaxing dip in the outdoor hot tub.
Winston Lodge
This traditionally-built, rustic wood lodge offers 11 comfortable bedrooms with relaxing jetted baths or walk-in showers. It also offers a fantastic après location as the Local Hero pub is situated in-house.
